AEDA Decision Point – Marxan conservation planning software special issue
The October 2010 issue of the Applied Environmental Decision Analysis (AEDA) research hub Decision Point magazine is a special 16-page bumper issue on Marxan – the most widely used conservation planning software in the world. AEDA didn’t create Marxan but it has contributed significantly to its refinement and the ways it can be applied.
In Decision Point’s Marxan special you’ll find the following stories:
- Models, problems and algorithms – What are they are why should you care
- Mixing economics into conservation – It’s all about cost effective planning
- Improving the mix – Bringing a fisher’s expertise into the equation
- Marxan with Zones – Marxan just got more sophisticated
- Planning for catastrophe – Marxan helps planning for persistence
- Reducing bycatch – The value of dynamic marine closures
- Crossing borders, cutting costs – Pros and cons of international collaboration in conservation
- What is it we’re minimising? Selecting ‘sensible costs’ in marine conservation planning
